After much anticipation, the first full theatrical trailer for the year’s most anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday, has finally been released. Released early Monday morning on July 27 to promote advanced ticket sales, the trailer is two and a half minutes of intense superhero action, mystery, and our first glimpse into Robert Downey Jr’s menacing Dr. Victor Von Doom, Marvel’s greatest villain of all time.
From the trailer, it's looking more and more that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are adapting Jonathan Hickman’s acclaimed “Time Runs Out” storyline from Marvel Comics. The film centers around the concept of “incursions,” described as a catastrophic multiversal event where universes collide, ultimately resulting in their destruction. The film will center around the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four as they attempt to prevent their realities from collapsing in on each other, all while navigating whatever nefarious plan Dr. Doom has been festering behind the scenes.

Marvel Time
It’s no secret that this is a monumental film for Marvel Studios, who are producing the film in partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo’s flagship studio AGBO. It’s the first Avengers film since Avengers: Endgame (2019), which was one of the most successful films of all time. And there’s a lot riding on the success of Avengers: Doomsday. Since 2019, Marvel Studios has had difficulty capturing the audience it once had a stronghold over. Critical and commercial failures, superhero fatigue, and an overall shift in audience behavior. Yet, still, this trailer is proof that flames of excitement linger in the hearts of fans worldwide. Within twenty-four hours, the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday hit just over five-hundred million views across all platforms; the second-biggest movie trailer launch in history. And even further, since advanced ticket sales went live after the trailer premier, the film has already grossed nearly seventeen million dollars, twice as high as Marvel’s most recent box-office success, 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine, which ultimately grossed 1.3 billion dollars at the global box office.
Joe Russo, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito and Anthony Russo
_____
Doomsday Ahead
These numbers are clear indicators that Marvel head Kevin Feige’s decision to once again team-up with Joe and Anthony Russo has been a successful one. Joe and Anthony Russo (along with Feige) were instrumental in Marvel Studios’ decade-long domination of the box-office, developing films such as Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame. With the critical and commercial success of this first trailer, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated films.
Avengers: Doomsday premiers December 18th, 2026 in theaters worldwide.

Chris Evans, Robecca Romijn, and Robert Downey, Jr. are just three of the many actors and actresses to star in "Avengers: Doomsday"
